Wolverhampton Wanderers are in an incredibly curious position ahead of the January transfer window because of where they find themselves in the Premier League.

The Old have two points on the board and are already 16 points from safety, with no wins, which means that it may not make much sense to splash the cash on signings to improve Rob Edwards’ team just for the short-term.

Instead, unfortunately, the club may have to make decisions with a view to being in the Championship next season in mind, which could impact Jorgen Strand Larsen’s future at Molineux.

Why Wolves should sell Jorgen Strand Larsen in January

It was recently reported that West Ham United are interested in a deal to sign the Norway international in the January transfer window, as they look to battle their way out of the relegation zone.

With relegation seemingly on the horizon, Wolves should take this opportunity to cash in on the 25-year-old centre-forward, who has only scored one goal, which was a penalty, in the Premier League this season.

Per Sofascore, Strand Larsen has scored one goal from 2.68 xG and is yet to register an assist for his teammates, whilst the towering marksman has also lost 73% of his ground duels, which shows that he has been wasteful on the ball and a lightweight out of possession.

He has failed to build on his return of 14 goals from 10.27 xG in the Premier League in his first season with the Old Gold, and this may be the right time to move on from him, amid interest from West Ham, because of his declining form.

Wolves will need to bring in another centre-forward before they are able to sanction an exit for their current first-choice number nine, though, and they have been linked with a new striker.

The striker Wolves can sign to replace Strand Larsen

Earlier this month, talkSPORT reported that Wolves are considering a move for a star who was on fire in the MLS during the 2025 campaign.

The report claimed that the Old Gold are weighing up a move to sign Nashville centre-forward Sam Surridge to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

It did not reveal how much money the MLS side would demand for the English number nine, who previously played for the likes of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, and Stoke.

Surridge, who was described as an “absolute baller” by one MLS reporter, enjoyed a sensational 2025 campaign with Nashville, and could be an excellent signing to allow the club to part ways with Strand Larsen.

The 27-year-old number nine ended the 2025 MLS season with a return of 25 goals in 37 appearances for Nashville, per Sofascore, whilst he also created 11 ‘big chances’ for his side and registered three assists.

Surridge also scored six goals in three US Open Cup matches and scored in the All Star match, which meant that he ended 2025 with a staggering 32 goals in all competitions, with 25 of those coming in the league.

Only Lionel Messi (35) and Denis Bouanga (26) scored more goals than the Englishman in the MLS this year, per Sofascore, which speaks to how impressive his goalscoring output was.

His incredible form in front of goal for Nashville suggests that he could provide Wolves with a lift in front of goal, after Strand Larsen’s dismal start to the Premier League season.

What also makes Surridge an ideal addition to the squad is that he is also an experienced Championship striker, who has played in the division for Forest, Stoke, Swansea, and Bournemouth.

The 27-year-old star scored nine goals in 40 matches in the second tier in the 2021/22 campaign, when he last played at that level, and this means that he would be a sensible signing for the short-term and the long-term, given his form in the MLS and his Championship experience.

Therefore, Surridge would be a good enough signing to allow the club to finally cash in on Strand Larsen, amid interest from the Hammers, next month, which is why they should push to get a deal done for the forward.
